One of my favorite stories is the one about the hot dog vendor. Maybe it’s because I love hot dogs, or maybe it’s because it is such an insightful story.

Perhaps you have heard it before. There’s this guy who runs a hot dog stand in the city and he does pretty good with it. Good enough in fact that he can afford to send his son off to college. While his son is off to college the dad continues to grow his business, by the time his son graduates from college his dad has 10 hot dogs stands around the city and no less than 15 employees. His business is booming!

Well, his son is shocked by all this growth. He tells his dad that times are bad, he shouldn’t be growing like this in “down” times, and he certainly shouldn’t be adding employees. He needs to be careful…

What a delicious concept to Mother Your Own Business!  Well it should be Mothered, after all don’t our clients need it sometimes?  On this Mothers Day, I thought it particularly important to focus on getting a bit personal in business.

Getting personal may take a nicely baked cake, a half-baked idea, or a good swift kick in the pants!

Mothers Day 2012, let’s also give our Moms some kudos, after all she helped create the entrepreuneral genius that your are, and have M.D. stand for Mothers Day!

Just a thought! So, Mother your clients, and reward your Mom! Genius. Of course!

Notes: A Purse shaped cake is a good reminder that the relationship still involves $$$,
prompt payments are still expected, as per contractual obligations (Mom is very
proud of this last line)!

So, he asked “what color would you like your room painted?”, I said “purple”.  “I’ll need to paint the eighteenth century carved corner blocks’ flowers too,” I thought; and so my room was different!

Cinco de Mayo is coming up and this margarita is perfect! For this recipe I used my ice cream machine to get these margaritas nice and icy. I hate when margaritas are watered down, which is why I hate adding regular ice cubes. When you use this method, your margarita can also double as a dessert. After about 15-20 minutes in the ice cream machine, the mixture is the perfect consistency for a great margarita. If you freeze the mixture, it becomes refreshing hibiscus margarita sorbet. Try serving the frozen sorbet with a little tequila or champagne on top.

When we inspected the hives at Hughenden Manor yesterday, the pollen being brought in seemed particularly vibrant in colour.  We saw bright yellow and also a bright orange.  I’d not anticipated such generous pollen loads with the days of heavy rain we’d had.  A field of oil seed rape may account for the yellow.  Implication is that honey bees go mad for OSR so the fact some were visiting something else was interesting in itself.

Heading for my pollen guide – or an online resource. http://www.bristolbeekeepers.org.uk/  shows dandelion might be the most likely source and as we drove away I saw quite a few dandelions.  perhaps the frequent downpours had stopped grass mowing leaving more dandelions on view?  The dandelions seemed fully open (and it was about 4 pm).

This video clip certainly started the brain cells pondering.  It reminded me that dandelions appear almost everywhere and once there…

I’m lucky to have close access to the Green Cay and Wakodahatchee Wetlands (Seminole for “created waters”), and when we’re not able to hike the Everglades or some of the other far-reaching natural area, a stroll around these boardwalks will soothe my spirits. It’s full-on nesting and baby season, and while I’ve posted some pics of the anhingas and others (the baby gators I’ve yet to post), I’ve saved the biggest for last: the ever-so-graceful Great Blue Herons. Their displays at the rookery fuel the attentions of every amateur and professional photographer and birdwatcher for miles, and the meek (*me*) have no place if it’s crowded…which is fine, because while the herons are divine, there’s plenty of other loveliness to be found when no one’s looking.
